Looking for replacement of very tight channel balances

Home Owner from Ojai, California
Hi,
I have a horizontal slider with 34" channel balances that are so strong they have damaged the latch on the window.
Because this is a horizontal window, I would like the balance to be as light as possible so the window could be partially opened. Right now it will either be slammed open or must be latched closed.
What do you suggest?
Thank you,
Leon

Thanks for reaching out to us, Leon. We can supply these balances, but they have to be a custom order due to their configuration. Because of this, they'll also be non-refundable. I want to make sure we get you the right balance for the job, so I have homework for you.

You mentioned that this balance is too strong for the weight of the sash. However, if the spring is too light then you'll have the opposite problem: the window in that case wouldn't even stay open when raised. It's also possible that the springs are the proper calibration but age has caused them to stiffen, which more or less gives you the same problems.

Knowing the exact weight of the sash will allow me to determine how this spring ought to be calibrated. That way there's no need to guess, and since these are non-refundable, it will mean that you won't be out a lot of money. It's worth it in the long run, trust me. Please let me know if you can get that weight for me, down to the ounce.

For reference, your original stamp of "33-4" is rated for sashes weighing 18 through 24 pounds.
