NU PRIME balancers Pt. 1

Contractor from Louisiana
I have 20 dbl hung aluminum windows that are no longer operable and requiring the old balancers to be replaced

Units are about 30 + years old and all tilt in, was able to remove the balancers but couldn't extract the pivot shoes

Is there a specific formula on removing and installing these?

Hello,

It's tough to be sure but it looks like you may have a balance assembly similar to the S770-32, except with a hook like the 15-036 attached to the pulley cord. We'll need you to confirm if the image below matches your balance hook.

If so, we can supply the replacements that you need but it will need to be a custom order. We would also need to know the exact weight of your window sash to determine the spring strength needed for your new balances, as well as the exact number of replacements you'd like to order.

It also looks like your pivot shoe may be installed sideways in the jamb. See the videos related on this page to assist you. Thank you!

That is it. Where does the hook latch on to exactly and the frames I'm working with are aluminum

The metal hook would attach to a pivot shoe beneath the balance. This hook is often used with the 15-105 shown below but you would need to remove your pivot shoe from the window to confirm it's a match. We'll also still need to know your exact sash weight and the number of replacement balances that you need to send over a price quote.

Is there a video that demonstrates the installation of these particular balancers?

I'm guessing that they are anchored in the middle of the jamb?

See the video below showing how the S770 would be installed. One exception is that your fitting hooks into the pivot shoe rather than being nested in place like the terminal clip that comes with the stock S770 shown in the video.

Here's another issue with the aluminum frames. There's no cutout anywhere in the jamb. Does this mean I need to make my own?

If there is no opening in the jamb to remove the pivot shoe, you are correct that you will need to make cutouts to access them. See our video below to walk you through the process.
