Need help charging Thermal Gard Tilt Windows.

A handy person from Medford, NJ says:
Purchased charging tool from you and carefully followed the directions on how to charge the spiral window balances. This has not successful in allowing window to move easily. Have tried 1, 2, and 3 counter clock wise turn settings but none have been successful.

The windows worked well until the bottom sash of each was removed and reinstalled so it doesn't appear that the spiral balances needs to be replaced.

What seemed like an easy task has turned into a frustrating one. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bob from SWISCO responded:

Hi Toby. Hm, sorry to hear you're having trouble with these spiral balances. First, I think it's safe enough to give them a couple more turns; you should start to feel the tension building by then. If not, however, then it's indeed time for new balances. Why? Well, there's really only two explanations. 1) The Spiral Balances failed after a natural lifespan, irrespective of the bottom sash replacement. 2) The balances' spring calibration was never correct for your window to begin with, which led to early failure. If that's the case, we need to know the weight of the window sash, as well as details about the spiral balance's identity to confirm. See the video below for what we need. Let us know what you find out!
