Hi Toby. Hm, sorry to hear you're having trouble with these spiral balances. First, I think it's safe enough to give them a couple more turns; you should start to feel the tension building by then. If not, however, then it's indeed time for new balances. Why? Well, there's really only two explanations. 1) The Spiral Balances failed after a natural lifespan, irrespective of the bottom sash replacement. 2) The balances' spring calibration was never correct for your window to begin with, which led to early failure. If that's the case, we need to know the weight of the window sash, as well as details about the spiral balance's identity to confirm. See the video below for what we need.
