Pella Sliding Screen Door Lath Broken or Mortise?

A quick learner from Ponchatoula, Louisiana says:
When troubleshooting an older Pella sliding screen door, how can one tell if the latch needs replacing or the mortise box? When I press the latch knob, the latch does not extend, therefore it does not close. The door handle looks very much like your product code 83-123. I am assuming based on your answer to another question that the mortise box does not come with a new handle? Is it possible that you can tell which is bad by the latch knob position in the photo? Thank you!

The best way to determine if your mortise or latch needs replacing is to first fully remove the latch then try to manually throw it, say with a screwdriver, or whatever tool you have on hand. If it works, then you know the latch is the problem. If it's still broken, then you know it's the mortise.

We do not sell that mortise, unfortunately. You would need to contact Pella directly for assistance.
