Plastic pieces at top of window sides

A home owner from California says:
Hi,

I have these plastic pieces at the top of each window side. One side is broken. I'm wondering if I need to replace it along with the window balances. If I do, what are they called so I can find replacements? I haven't ordered new balances yet so I don't know if they would work if I just left them alone.

Hello,

Your photos resemble the 18-008H top sash guide, which works with many different balance series. Their function is to catch the top of the balance and hold it in place beneath the sash. You only need to replace these guides if they are also broken. Thank you!
