Removed old weather stripping to find 2 "pins/staples"? in old track

Quick Learner
Hello,

After watching your videos, I was ready to replace the pile weatherstripping that I ordered (58-127). In removing the old one, it seems like there was some type of adhesive backing on the old strip, so I had to remove it in sections. There are two spots within the track that seems to have pins? or staples in it?
Q.1) How do I install the new stripping? When I slide the new strip in, it will hit these pins/staples.
Q.2) Since the old strip had some adhesive that ran along the entire backing of the old strip, do I need to put an adhesive on the new one?

Photos attached:
track1.jpg: Shows new stripping that I'm sliding into track, but it won't go past the "metal pins/staple?"
track2.jpg: I just put a pin next to the track so you have an idea of the size of the obstruction. (note that the "fuzzy" part is the old weatherstripping I couldn't pull off the "pin/staple?"

Yes, there does seem to be a slight notch on the vinyl rail to lock the wool pile in the track. You can try to carefully work a flat putty knife under the rail to remove the notch, that might allow you to replace the wool pile. You would then crimp it at the end to lock the new wool pile in place. I wouldn't use adhesive. Try the sash in the frame to see if the pile stays in place.
