Replacement sash balances for double hung wood windows

A contractor from Kula, Hawaii says:
The tubes I need are 24 3/4" long and 26 3/4" long and the foot goes into a pre-machined slot with dimensions of 3/8" wide by 3 1/8" long and 3/16" deep at the bottom of the sash. Each window pane weighs about 12 1/2 lbs. Thank you for your help and look forwarding to hearing from you soon...Dana. .... ph#808-870-0859

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Thanks for contacting us, Dana. This kind of balance isn't made anymore, but we have replacement options. Now, we usually recommend the Series 500 for old wood windows, but you mention that the slot is only 3/8" wide. That's a little too small. Consider, then, our Series 400 spiral balance and a bracket like our 17-030 or 17-031. Your sash is pretty light at 12.5 pounds so this should be fine.

For length, you could go with 25" and 27", respectively.
