Rod balance

Quick Learner from USA
Good morning

I need help in locating what I would refer to as a spring assembly for a flip out Alliance window.

As you can see in the picture the spring diameter is 1/2 inch. However I did want to mention what the original problem was and get your opinion. When I would unlock the window it would raise up 6 inches or so all by itself! After removing the damaged rod balance, the window seems to work perfectly. What do you think about that scenario? Picture Lori#7 shows both the broken and unbroken rod balance. Picture #8 shows a close up of measurement. To me it looks like 26 1/2". The weight of the window sash is 12lbs. Let me know what you come up with.

I would like to know if this spring assembly part is available for purchase. Thank you in advance for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

Were these the original balances in the window, or were they replaced at some point? Typically when balances break you simply can't keep the window open anymore; the idea of them suddenly drifting open on their own is indicative of balances that were too strong for the window--though I suppose when these old rod balances, a lot of other things could go wrong. They've actually been discontinued because they simply aren't a very durable mechanism. You can replace this type with our Series 795 Channel Balance, which is much sturdier. The video below explains how.
