S190-832 vs S190-840?

A handy person from Brighton, MI says:
What is the difference between the 832 and the 840? I need to replace one that clearly appears to be the 190 series but it has only an '8' stamped on it. I assume this means 8 pounds but I don't know if it matters whether I use the 832 or the 840. Thank you.

Both coil springs can work for an 8 pound sash, however the S190-32 is 32" long. This works for most windows, but if you have a taller window then the S190-840 would be better, as it is 40" long.
A home owner from Boston, MA says:
My window weights about 16 lbs and it has two coil balance spings on each side. What is the stamped # that I should use? Thank you.

Hello! You could use one S190-840 coil spring on each side. Each coil can hold 8 pounds.
