Simonton Window Balance

coil balance spring for Simulton windows

Hello! Simonton doesn't make this balance anymore but you should be able to use the Certainteed Series 170 without issue.

If there's no stamp on any of your old springs, then you will have to weigh your sash on a scale and divide that by 2. This is of course assuming that your window only has one spring on each side, which I believe yours does; please correct me if I'm mistaken.
So, for example, if your sash weighs 10 pounds then you want to pick two 5 pound springs. Does that make sense?
Now I bet you'll ask which one of these 3-digit codes carries how much weight. Trust me, I know it's a little confusing at first. The rule of thumb is that you should ignore the first two digits. The last digit is how many pounds that option can support. So, for another example, the "405" stamp carries 5 pounds, the "406" stamp carries 6 pounds, and so on.
If you are curious what the first two digits mean, that represents how long the coil extends, in inches. 406 can extend 40", 336 can extend 33", and so on.
Hopefully that all makes sense. It's normally a lot easier when the old springs have a number that you can very quickly reference, but without that we just have to do things the hard way. Let me know if you needed clarification on any of this and I would be happy to walk you through it.
