Tilt Window balances have broken/cracked - we need to purchase 3 new sets and 2 tilt window latches

Quick Learner from Cary, NC

We have 3 window balance sets that are broken and no longer work so we can't open/close these 3 tilt windows (approx 33.5" Wide x 29.5" height). Picture 1 is the bar code for one of these Norandex-Reynolds Simonton windows. Picture 2 shows a good working balance on another window. Picture 3 is a picture of one of the broken window balances. Picture 5 is the distance from the window sill to the balance. Picture 6 shows the width of the opening for the window balance.

We also need to purchase 2 window latches for one of these windows (latch is visible in Picture 3) - it is approximately 2-3/4" x 11/16".

Could you please tell me the price for all 3 tilt window balance sets and 2 window latches?

Do we also need to purchase anything else (e.g. window pins, etc.)?

Please contact us as soon as possible as we need to get these windows fixed before winter.

Thank you very much for your help

Thanks for reaching out to us. We should be able to supply compatible balance hardware for you, but I'm afraid I can't see enough of your balance assembly to see a recommendation. Your photos here only show the outer cover.

In order to make a recommendation, I will need a clear photo of the pivot shoe. I will also need to know how wide the band of the coil spring is, and the stamp printed on it, so removal of the balance assembly will be necessary. I know that's probably not something you wanted to do before you had a replacement in hand but it can't be avoided. Removal of the original is necessary for proper identification.

Please let me know if you can get that information to me and we can work from there.

Thanks. We will try to remove the window balance as soon as we are able, but I have 1 very important question - Once we remove the balances, will we be able to close & lock the windows? Kevin

The sash would need to rest in the pivot shoe in order to function properly, and the pivot shoe is exactly what I need to see. The window would close without it and perhaps even lock, but it wouldn't be very secure.

That's my problem. Once I remove the parts, if the window won't stay closed securely, I don't know how to do this because I would have to wait after removing the pivot shoe until I got a replacement part from you guys. So I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to do this. Are you saying that I could remove the pivot shoe and balance, take pictures, and then re-install the shoe and balance after I send you the pictures for the replacement parts? I'm confused...Is there a way that we could talk by phone sometime? If so, what number should I call and how do I get connected to you? Thanks.

That is precisely what you need to do, yes: remove the balance, take your photos and get all relevant information (such as measurements and spring stamps), and then reinstall it back in the window while we look for a possible replacement. If reinstallation is not possible then you would need to have an insecure window until a replacement is on hand.

I unfortunately don't have a phone line, so this is the only place I can assist you. However, the above process is really all there is to it. If you don't think that will be possible or if you aren't willing to take those steps then I recommend contacting a local professional to come out and do the repair for you.
