Greetings:
I have a question for you before I attack the problem 'willy-nilly;' as I am not familiar w/ window issues.
I have Climate Master windows that were installed about 15 years ago. On one, the window drops as soon as the locks are released. I understand this to be a balance problem.
Is it necessary to replace the balance, or could it simply need retensioning/ The existing balances are 16" x 5/8" w/ a blue tip. The ens has a single perpendicular pin through the spiral.
Are balances replaced in pairs, if needed? How do I know which one is bad if not?
Thanks for your time.

Thanks for posting, BP.
It appears you may have the Series 500 Spiral Balance.
First, try charging your spiral balances with a charging tool. If you turn the spiral and it just keeps spinning without gaining any tension, that's a sign the spiral is broken. The balance spiral pull should tighten as it turns.
As far as replacing them, we recommend our customers to replace both balances, not just one. Replacing both window balances at the same time prevents extra wear-and-tear to the new balance, which will have to work twice as hard when paired with an old balance.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Mike- Thanks so much for getting back to me. My present balances have blue ends, the one you have indicated I need has a red end, did you mean to do is that correct for my application?
Thanks,
BP

You can select the blue tip option on the product page. Yes, the image does show the red tip option, but the blue tip option is available.
