Window spring spiral balance

A quick learner from palmetto says:
I have a white tip on my balances. The window does not stay up. None of the windows have a device to stop the spiral to stay in place like a pivot shoe. My windows are not pivot style.

So to charge the window spring doesn't work and we use a book to keep the window open.

Should I go up to a blue or red tip?

Replace the entire balance?

Tom from SWISCO responded:
If charging the balance doesn't give it any tension, then it's probably time for new balances. As for what color tip you should use, it would depend on your Series and the weight of your sash. Would you happen to know what Swisco spiral balance Series it is you need? If not, can you show me a picture of what you have? Can you also tell me how heavy your sash is?
