Window supporting rail

Quick Learner from Portland, Oregon
Hi
I have a window (old house) that had a broken support rail, there is no information but only number 31 9 engraved. Questions:
1. Do I need 2 support rails for this window (open vertically - not tilt)?
2. What p/n do I need to order?
Thanks,
Khoi

Hi Khoi,

Thanks for reaching out! I believe we may be able to supply you with the replacements needed for your window balances. I'll just need to see a photo of your existing hardware removed from the window to identify it. The stamp from the balance will only indicate the weight range the balances should be able to carry to support the sash weight.

It would be advised to replace both balances so that the older one does not cause the replacement balance to wear out faster. That said, it is ultimately up to your discretion.

I've included two video tutorials below with instructions on how to remove/install the balances and what details we'll need to identify them.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any other questions in the meantime.

Hi,
Total length of this part (metal section) is 31 1/2 inch.
1/2" W & 5/8" H metal piece size (U shape).
Attached are images of this part, pls let me know correct p/n to order.
Thanks,
Khoi

Hi Khoi,

Thanks for the photos. Although, these only show a photo of the top attachment on the balance. May I see a photo of the bottom shoe?

Thanks for the additional photos. The window balance you have here is an Extended Travel Channel Balance and will need to be a custom assembly. I've got your balance narrowed down but there are just a few more details I'll need to confirm pricing and availability.

To start, I'll need to see a clearer photo of the hook/clip on the bottom of the shoe. Please also double check the length of the metal channel. You've confirmed the length to be 31-1/2"; however based on the stamp and the balance type, I suspect it may be 31-5/8".

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any other questions you might have in the meantime.
