Thanks for posting. A stamp that ends in "90" uses an old rating system no longer in use. One of our options may still work, but you will need to weigh your sash on a scale to determine which one is best.

20 year old home, vinyl windows have always been hard to close at the end taking way too much force.

Windows weigh 22 pounds. (Triple checked)

Balancers are stamped 2690 and then 28. Pictures show the ends.

What would be the proper replacement please? Thanks! Is it possible this is not the right type gor the window weight?

This appears to be either a Series 380 or Series 385 Channel Balance. The only difference between these two balances is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe, or the 'heel-to-toe' measurement. See the image below for guidance. Compare both with your old hardware to see what you need.

Next, check the length of the metal channel, not including the nylon fittings at either end? Is it 27" long? If so, you're going to need either the S380-27 or S385-27, again, depending on the shoe depth. Finally, your old stamp of 2690 is from an older rating system no longer in use. If the window weighs exactly 22 pounds though, you can use a stamp of 2640, which will support a sash in the weight range of 19 through 26 pounds.
