I see you were looking at our 84-074N. Is this the part you're referring to? If so, whether you get nylon or steel really comes down to whether corrosion is a risk. I'm afraid I've never had the pleasure of visiting Chicago, so I'm not sure if that is a concern, but the general rule of thumb is that steel is stronger than nylon but more prone to corrode, while nylon is weaker but much more resistant against corrosion. You would just go with whatever suits your needs best.
