Hi Kathleen, Thanks for reaching out to us! We do have another method you can use to remove the balance shoe from the window but it would involve making cutouts in the frame of the window. Take a look at the video below for a tutorial on how to make the cutouts in the window. Your pivot shoe looks like it could be the 17/32" Thick 15-228 Pivot Shoe. Once you have the shoe removed from the sash, you'll need to carefully review and compare the dimensions to your existing shoe. Dimensions for 15-228
This shoe is most often used with the 1/2" wide Series 160 Coil Balance but to determine if this is the right replacement, you'll need to be sure to measure the width of your coil. If it is 3/8" wide, you'll need the Series 165 Coil Balance. Once you've confirmed the series you need, you'll need to look for any stamps/markings on the metal coil. These are used to determine the spring strength needed from your window. If there aren't any markings, you'll need to obtain the exact weight of the sash and divide it by the number of coils in the window. This number will give you the spring strength, in pounds, needed for your window. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have. |
