I have windows in. 1970 duplex they are aluminum and need these replaced. The silver tube is 20" and from white tip to end of metal thing is 1.75" the silver tube is 9/16" round. I don't know what the white piece looks like but will need something to attach to the window itself. The plastic is all broken and missing. Prolly need 24 - 30 of the silver tubes. Thank you
David

Hi there, David. This appears to be a non-tilt window spiral balance. However, I'm afraid the nylon attachment is too damaged to identify which is a very important detail. Would it be possible for us to see an undamaged version of this balance? |

From your photos, it looks like you have the S200-20 window balance with a 17-050 bottom sash clip (sold separately). To install the new balances, first, remove the top stops, and raise the sash all the way up to disengage the balance shoe from the sash. Then, push the sash to one side and swing out the opposite side of the window and replace the broken 17-050 sash clips on the sash. Then install the new balances, first screw the balance tube at the top of the window track, bring the spiral with the shoe up to the metal fork in the track and just before locking the shoe under the fork, give the spiral about three clockwise turns. You should feel the tension building in the balance tube, lock the shoe under the fork. Do the same on the other side, bring the sash above the balance shoes, push one side in the track, swing the other side over the other track, and bring the sash down to carefully to engage the sash clips. Reinstall the top window stops. |
