Broken Parts of Balance

A quick learner from Austin says:
While opening the window, the plastic part of what I think is called the shoe snapped off from what I believe is called the Spring. Now the window won't fully closed or stay open. I provide an image of the broken shoe, an image of where it snapped off what I think is the spring, and information about the window.

Thanks for posting! There is a chance that we can supply you with the replacement coil balance assembly needed for your window. However, I'll need to see a photo of the assembly removed from the window to identify the correct replacement.

I am specifically looking to see a phot of the pivot shoe as well as the compatible coil spring. You'll also need to have these parts removed to confirm any dimensions and to review the coil for any stamps.

Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

A quick learner from Austin says:
Hello,

Attached are pictures of the removed assembly. The coil spring has a stamp saying 406 J and that is the only stamp I see. Let me know if you were able to help and thank you.

Hey there, thanks for writing in! Your coil balance assembly appears to be an older discontinued shoe that is no longer available. The good news is that we have two possible replacements that may work for you.

For this, we typically recommend our 15-192 Certainteed pivot shoe to replace your Simonton brand part but you may need to shave down the aligners from the shoe to install it into the window. Take a look at the dimensions to confirm if it may work for you.

These are compatible with the Series 170 coil balances as well as the Series 171. The S171 is stacked on top of the S170 in situations where there is more than one coil. To confirm which coil strength you need, you'll need to look for any stamps/markings on the metal coil. If there are no stamps/markings, you'll need to get the window weight and divide it by the total number of coils in the window.

The compatible cover is part 15-156 and the balance drum part 15-157.
