Channel balance springs the window up.

A quick learner from CO says:
When I open my window, it springs up quickly to a certain point, usually 4-8 inches from where it was. Does it need a new balance, is the spring too powerful. The window may weigh 5-6lbs maybe. But the channel length is 24.

Hello there. Yes, when this occurs, it can be a sign the channel balances are too strong a calibration for the sash weight. That said, you usually only run into this problem if the wrong replacement balances were installed. Are these new balances, or were they original ones in the window? If they're the original ones and this problem only recently started, then something else may be to blame. Is this a tilt or non-tilt window? Can you remove the balances and send us pictures of any fittings on the top and bottom of the channel? Can you show us any stamp on the balances themselves? Finally, please weigh the window sash on a bathroom scale. That exact weight will help us determine if the balances were indeed too strong. Many thanks.
