I realized that the problem is where the window is attached to the frame, there is a sliding piece that has rusted. How do identify that piece?

It sounds like you're looking for the hinge. If so, see if the specifications of the 36-048 match what you need. We just recommend that you replace the top and bottom hinges at the same time.

It's the part I have circled on this photo. The corner of the window connects to this piece that slides left and right. This is on a working window. In the window with the problem it's all rusted away.

Unforutnately, the hinge guide shown in your photo is not available separately. The 36-048 hinge set that Emily mentioned would be our best replacement option as long as yours has the same 10" long base.
