Do I need to remove caulking before I replace glazing

I just bought a new home and see some of the snap-in glazing for the windows are cracking and falling part. Once I starting looking at them more I have found that there is caulking underneath the snap-in. Is it ok to have the caulking there or do i need to remove it all?

Thank you for submitting your post to our discussion board.

To glaze a window sash, you would put the caulking bead on the frame first, then press the glass against that and then install the snap-in.

Being that you see caulking with the snap-in, the former owner might have used the caulking to hold the broken snap-in together.

It's okay to use it as a touch up and it won't cause damage.
