Help with Door Handle

A friend says:
The screws that came with my new door handle (82-033 ) set do not screw into the other half of the handle set easily and the screws are too long for the thickness of my door. I went to Ace hardware to buy new shorter screws, but the 8-32 size screws are the ones that don't fit well and 6-32 screws are too small in dimeter. Also the only screws I can buy the hardware store don't have a black finish on them

Can you help me?

Hello,

Make sure to take your time when installing the handle screws. The issue with installing the screws is usually from the paint on the handle and on the screw threads. The thread count on the screw is 8-32. I would recommend bringing the handle with you to the Ace hardware store and have them help you install the screw through the outside handle to make sure it will go in. As for the black finish, you can use some black spray paint and just touch up the head of the screw but make sure not to paint the threads.
