Identify this operator, and how do I remove it?

This operator slips. The gear doesn't catch, so the handle spins without catching. I watched your video about replacing the operator, but I don't see how to get to the top screws, if there are any. If it's only screwed onto the sill outside, then I think I can remove it. The interior cover doesn't seem to detach, either.

It's a 39-220, isn't it? Do I need a special tool to get the arm off the window rivet?
And is there a trick to not having the replacement fail in the same way?

Thanks for your patience during this busy season. Correct, this looks like the 39-220 to me. For a new crank handle, see the 39-114L. Watch the video below that shows how to remove and replace casement window operators--this is specifically for a different design than yours, but the principles should still aid you. There's no real trick to avoiding these operators from breaking down other than to occasionally clean the hinges and tracks, perhaps with a silicone spray.
