I'm a caregiver to an elderly lady who has trouble walking

A professional from Kansas City, KS says:
My client had this on her storm door but we can't get it to open. She is in fear that in case of an emergency she won't be able to get out the house in time. Can anybody please help by telling me what kind of lock and how to open the door? If it's broken I'll have to figure out how to take it add so that she will be able to get out of the house if an emergency calls for it. Thank you.

Hello,

The handle set shown in your photos resembles the 40-049 at first glance depending on how the dimensions below compare to yours. With that being said, it sounds like it may have broken in the locked position. If so, unfortunately, that is not something that we would be able to advise you on. I'd recommend having a locksmith evaluate the door to help you determine the best way to remove it. I'm sorry that we won't be able to offer more assistance but please let us know if you have any other hardware questions. Thanks for posting.
