It's loosy goosy

A home owner from Texas says:
Hi, it's the part that goes insides the door. Trying to lock it is an enigma encased in wood and vinyl. It's action is too loose making the upward motion of the actual latch unpredictable. Thoughts on how to fix?

Thanks for posting. It sounds like the tension in the lock is worn down and it should be replaced. See our Andersen 82-037 Deadlock set. I believe this is what you have, but review the dimensions below to confirm.
