Need new parts for Vinyl Window Repair

A quick learner from Elmira, NY says:

I have several double hung vinyl windows that need repair. In all cases the spring band has broken and the windows will not stay up. All windows appear to use the same spring and shoe sets. Photos attached. The band number stamp appears to be 832.

Can you recommend the appropriate replacements parts for me? Do you need any additional information?

Best regards,

---Jared

Hi there, Jared.

Thanks for reaching out to us. It appears the 15-180 is a match for what you have here. This pivot shoe uses the Series 190 coil springs but you'll have to divide the window sash weight by the total number of springs in the window to determine which weights you'll need. We also sell the 15-182 bushing and 15-186 balance clip in case you needed those.

Emily, Thanks for the follow-up on this. The current "Stamp" on my broken coil is 832. How does that relate to the Series 190 coils offered. What would be the best replacement?
Because only one spring is broken on each window, the weight of the unsupported window is difficult to determine. I'm guessing maybe 18 lbs?

Your old stamp doesn't align with any of the options, I'm afraid. That's why you will need to weigh the window sash. That's the only way to confirm the proper spring weights. Estimates of the sash weight won't suffice, unfortunately.

A quick learner from Elmira, NY says:
Emily, The best I could do with to attempt to measure the weight of the sash with a postal scale. The full weight appears to be 14.8 - 15.0 lbs. So what spring do I need to order?
Thanks,

Emily from SWISCO responded:

You have two options. The first would be to use (1) S190-740 7-pound spring on each side of the window. This will total 14 pounds of overall support. The second option would be to use (1) S190-840 8-pound spring on each side of the window which will total 16 pounds of overall support. Either should be fine so long as the coil weights total within a pound of the actual sash weight.
