Non-matched channel balance weights

A home owner from Wisconsin says:
Hello, I have 2 s350 channel balances for my non-tilting sash windows. However, I noticed that the balance weights are not the same. One is a 2020, and the other is a 2030.

Similarly, in larger windows, I see a 2030 and a 2040 on the same sash's balances.

When I order a replacement pair for a sash, should I get the same weights as before, or get an equal pair of weights (2x 2030s)?

Hey there,

Thanks for writing in! Having differently tensioned balances in the window will cause the the "weaker" balance to wear out much faster and can end up causing significant damage in the long run.

Since there are differing stamps in each of the windows, I would suggest obtaining the exact weight of the sash. There is chart below the product description of the S350-21 channel balance that lists the weight range each stamp option can support.

If you would like, I am happy to confirm the stamps for you, I'll just need to know the sash weight.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

A home owner from Wisconsin says:
Thank you. The sash weighs about 16lbs. Could you recommend the right channel balance weight to buy?

Jasmine from SWISCO responded:

Sure! According to the chart, the 2040 stamp option would be the best choice for your 16lb sash. It can support a sash weighing 15 to 23 lbs.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.

Have a great day!
