Remove old operating handle

A quick learner from California says:
I purchased the 83-040 replacement handle. The latch mechanism is riveted into the OLD operating handle (the slider handle on the interior of the screen door, and the one I'm trying to replace). I'm having a difficult time removing the old handle because of the rivet. I have searched the internet for instructions how to remove old latch and pull mechanisms but there are no videos or instructions.

Second, because this is a custom screen door, the length of the NEW latch is too short for the door, so I need to re-use the OLD latch without destroying it (preferably).

How do you remove the OLD operating handle, specifically, removing the rivet from the latch?

Thanks!

Casey from SWISCO responded:

Hello,

If your original handle uses a pop rivet to hole the slide latch in place, you'll need to carefully drill it out to remove the original handle set. The 82-040 comes with a pop rivet and four screws to install the new parts. We also offer the 75-012S rivet installation tool if needed. Thanks for posting.
