MI patio sliding screen door handle

A quick learner says:

I am re-screening my patio sliding screen door. I am trying to find a replacement handle and keeper. It was a bit difficult to remove due to not being able to disassemble the latch that hooks onto the keeper.

There is very little information to be found on the glass sliding doors, but this may help:

MI Windows & Doors, Inc. series 910/3910 SGD with Guardian, Geneva, NY stamped on the glass.

The frame of the screen door measures 37" x 77-11/16" x 1/2"

I have attached a photo of the handle and keeper.

Thank you,

Kenvin

Hello,

I would recommend starting by comparing the specifications of the 83-040 to your screen door latch assembly. Keep in mind that the installation hole spacing is a key factor. Take a look and let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you!

Thank you, Casey.

The installation hole spacing is a match (2-9/16"), which is good. It looks like it will fit the current holes on the outside screen door frame. I am hoping that the lip is not more than 1/4".

The difference is the piece for the inside part of the screen door frame. My (inside) handle only has one screw hole which is on the back of the handle, and receives the screw (through the screen) from the handle on the outside. The 83-040 has two screw holes near each of the tabs that slide into the frame. I am guessing that my 1/4" lip on the inside frame will accommodate these additional screws.

Is the latch mechanism able to be detached, and re-attached? I am not sure how I can get it back into the door frame slot with the little bend that is supposed to latch to the keeper. I see a hole in your picture, but I'm not sure of it's function. My guess is that the manufacturer of my door wanted customers to purchase a whole new door, rather than be able to "thread" the latch through the slot.

Are the two handle pieces (outside and inside) independent of each other, or do they get screwed together at any point?

If you can answer these questions, I will be able to make a decision.

Thanks again!

The hole in the inside thumb latch is used to rivet the metal latch. See the photo from our product page below that shows all of the independent parts that come with the 83-040. Could you clarify what you mean by a 1/4" lip? This assembly comes with four screws used to attach the pulls to each side of the door frame. Hopefully, this image answers your questions but let us know if you need anything else.

Thank you for the additional picture; that helps. As far as the "lip" on the inside part of the frame, that is the small dip in the frame that allows for the plastic tabs to slide in, unlike the outside of the frame which is flat.

At this point, all looks to be a good match, so I will go ahead and place the order.

Thanks again for your assistance.
