It looks like 1 40. I'm not sure if there is a character between the 1 and the 40. It's in the pic.
The metal portion is 12 inches.

To determine which of these balances in the series you'll need, confirm the measurement for the depth of the bottom shoe. It should either be 1" or 1-1/8".
