help locating coil balance spring

Quick Learner from Evanston, IL
I didn't see a photo of the coil balance for my bathroom window. The coil balance measures 1/2" wide by 1 3/16" diameter. It has a letter E stamped into it. The sash weighs around 10 lbs on a bathroom scale. Printing on the sash reads:

Rehau K 600287-001 10/31/04 13:18 9882

The window is a bathroom window 22" x 24".

Any help is appreciated.

Your shoe looks like a match for our 15-177, which commonly uses our Series 152 spring. This just screws onto the shoe instead of hooking on, like yours. Looking at your photos I can make out a screw hole in the shoe so I see no reason why you can't reuse it.

A stamp of "E" typically indicates 5 pounds of support. If the sash is 10 pounds, and you only have one spring on each side, then this holds up. I'd go with the S152-5.

Awesome. I also noticed the hole in the shoe, and was looking at screws in the hardware store. Ah, 5 pounds then. I was wondering what the E was for. Now I know. I'll go with the S152-5. Thanks again.

Just one other question occurred to me. My present coil has a diameter of 1 3/16". This fits nicely with the nylon holder pictured. The S152-5 has a slightly larger diameter at 1 1/4". Is this an issue, or is there a closer match with a 1 3/16" diameter that also rates at 5lbs? If not, I suppose I could unwind the coil slightly at installation to insert it in the cutout.

The diameter of the coil spring is 1-1/8" so you should be fine. An ideal screw to mount the spring to the 15-177 pivot shoe is a #6 X 3/8" stainless steel pan head screw like our 33-071.

Thanks for clearing that up. Will do.
