2001 Milgard Classic Awning Window operator

Home Owner from Daly City, CA

I have a 2001 Milgard Classic Awning Window with accordion extension arms. End of each arm has circular hole holding metal piece that slides in track on underside of window and is held in place by a plastic clip. Only the metal piece on end is damaged/broken/lost (operating arm, crank and handle still work).

Milgard will not honor warranty because of corrosion causation exclusion. Am looking to replace the end parts or entire operating arm if necessary. Milgard says operator arm part # is HA068310 and was manufactured by Truth.

Much Thanks,

Robert

Hello,

Your awning operator resembles the 39-239B shown below as long as the dimensions match up to yours. This assembly is used with the 39-536 pivot slide, 39-558 detach clip, and 39-556 track. We also offer the 39-375 handle with cover.

Note that the 39-536 is not metal but it does appear to match your end fitting. See the specifications from our product pages below. Thank you!

Hi, I found your email on the Swisco site regarding the operator mechanism for Milgard Classic

Awning window from the 2001 era.....of which I have the same....year was 2002 when ordered.

Did the product that Swisco offered fit? Just wondering if you had luck.

Thank you for your time ;))

Hello,

Thank you for your assistance.

I bought the above parts and installed on the subject Milgard awning window. Everything fit well: End fitting fit on extension arms and into slide track below awning windo , and the retaining clips held these fittings in place. The problem is when I shut window the new end pieces were too thick to get over the lower window casing, ie. when the window is retracted shut the end fitting hit the casing and will not shut. See photos. Are there end pieces with a lower width/height profile? Can the casing be cut to accommodate?

Thanks again . . . I am so close.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble installing your new operator. The 39-239C operator arms bend down, but maybe they are bent too much? Have you tried straightening out the arms at the end a bit to help clear the window sill? Just keep in mind that modified parts can't be returned.

Another idea would be to remove the 39-536 slide and flip it over to install it facing the other way. I also wonder if the window could have sagged. If so, take a look and see if you might be able to raise the hinges.

Hi, I'll give those ideas a try.

I did not buy a new arm assembly but simply added to 39-536 slides and 39-558 clips to the existing arms as arms had not corroded and still functioned. Would buying and installing new arms potentially be the answer?

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble closing the window using the new operator fittings. It's possible that there may be some subtle design differences between your original operator parts and the new style assembly. In this case, your best bet may be to replace the entire operator, which is designed to work with the fittings you already purchased.
