please identify part # for 25 4 CN CALDWELL window balance

Home Owner from West Linn, OR

Hello,

I need a new window balance (at least I think that's what it's called). Attached are photos that, I think, include all of the information that you mentioned in your instructions. The one that is broken is marked with "25 4 CN CALDWELL" (and that is also shown in one of the photos...IMG-5258).

Per your suggestion to replace both sides at the same time, I'll need to order two.

Thank you for your help!

Thanks for your photos. Based on what I see here, you have either our S380-26 or S385-26, depending on the depth of the bottom shoe. That's the only difference between them. I recommend measuring your shoe and referring to our dimensions to confirm the best match.

Hello Tom. Thank you so much for your thorough and quick response.

I have one follow-up question. When I went to order the S385-26, several options are offered relating to the weight of the sash. The instructions say, "The strength you need should be indicated as a stamp or imprint on your old metal channel. If you do not have a stamp, or cannot match it up to our options, weigh your sash on a scale and refer to the chart below."

The stamp on my current balance is "25 4 CALDWELL". Do you think the "25" refers to the weight? (There aren't any other stamps on the balance.) If so, do you recommend option 2540 for 19 to 25 lbs or option 2550 for 25 to 28 lbs. I live alone and this is quite a large window so I'd like to avoid having to weigh it if at all possible.

Thanks again for your help!

Hello! Your stamp of 25-4 matches our 2540. As noted on the S385-26 store page, two balances with this stamp can hold 19 through 25 pounds.

That's just a funny coincidence, though. The "25" in the 25-4 stamp does not actually represent the weight. Instead, it represents the height of the visible glass for your window sash, which is how sizing is determined for these parts. The visible glass height is always 1" less than the length of the balance's metal channel.

The "-4" in the stamp is just a sequential code used to split up the various weight ranges.
