replacement spiral balance

Quick Learner from Slaton, Texas
I need to replace the spiral balances in 32" wide by 20" high by 1 1/4" thick wood window sashes. Each sash has two 27 1/2" by 7 1/2" glass panes.

The house was built in 1963. The spiral balance diameter is 19" by 9/16" and the plastic tube color is gray. There does not appear to be any color coding for strength of the balances as on your website. The top of the balances were nailed to the inside of the window track and the bottom of the balance has a hinged 2 3/4" metal plate that was nailed to the bottom of the sash.

What spiral balances are the closest replacement?

Thanks for posting. Please take a look at our S500-19 spiral balance. Does that look about right? You may also want to consider a bracket similar to our 17-012.

As for the color of the tip, you will have to weigh your sash and compare it to the ranges available for the S500-19. Its Red Tip can carry a window sash weight range of 6 through 19 pounds, while the Blue Tip can carry 10 through 29 pounds. Does your sash's weight fall within either of these ranges?

Please keep in mind that the weight range information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.
