replacing spring balances

A home owner from St. Louis, Mo says:
I have some windows in my home that have a style of spring balance that I haven't been able to find replacement parts for, and have talked to some local window repair stores for advice. They recommended that I switch to the 900 series spiral balance, with new pivot shoes, new pivot bars. I currently have springs, around a fiberglass rod, and a string that attaches the spring to the shoe. The shoe has the metal piece that digs into the vinyl. How can I determine the correct spring rate (tip color) I need when I replace with the 900 series? Window sashes are 34x34 and 28x34, (repairing 4 different windows)

Hey, Shane. To determine what color tip you need for your balances, you can weigh the sash on a scale and refer to the chart we have on each Series 900 store page.
