secrets to removing glazing?

A quick learner from Charleston says:
I just ordered some 55-178 vinyl glazing.
However, I'm having trouble removing the old glazing from the windows as I refurbish them.
I've tried gentle tapping with a hammer and chisel. Any other ideas?

I understand, it's not always easy to remove old glazing bead. They seem to be made to not come out of the sash. Tapping with a hammer and chisel is honestly the best way. In the past, I've taken a flat stiff blade like a putty knife and placed it in the groove in the window where the beading goes, then giving it a quick tap with the hammer. This might do the trick, but there is a risk of damaging the glass in the sash if you aren't careful. Just be patient and persistent and you should be able to work it out!
