My house is over 20 yrs. old and i need new spiral balances and the bearing tip is green,does the color of the tip matter?also the balanc is 3/8 and the length of the tube is 23 and 1/8 i am guessing it is a 23 inch tube.What series balances will i need?

Thanks for posting, David. Yes, the color tip is very important. It determines how heavy a sash your balances can support. Before I can recommend an appropriate tip for you, I just need to know a bit more information.
First, is your window tilt or non-tilt? Also, what is the weight of your sash? You can determine this by removing the sash from the window and placing it on a scale.

Hi,
I am responding back about my windows,they are tilt windows and the tip is green.My windows are different lengths and width.If i weighed it correctly it is 13 lbs.

Thanks for posting. Based on your dimensions, it sounds like we're looking at an S900-23 spiral balance. Does that look about right? I'd also recommend the Red Tip. This can carry a window sash weight range of 7 through 21 pounds.
Please keep in mind that the weight range information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.
