Assuming you have found sliding glass door weatherstripping with a center fin pile in addition to a thicker, more dense type pile, both with the same dimensions, which style would be the most effective as a replacement for the dense original? The doors were manufactured under the Carvel series by Peachtree.

The manufacturers of today seem to prefer fin seal type wool pile. They believe it keeps air out better than plain wool pile.

DAVE,
I understand the logic behind a fin- like membrane in the center of the wool pile to stop air flow but will it break down easier (crack, chip, fall off) because of plastic fatigue due to bending/ compression and exposure to freezing and hot temperature?

Thank you for clarifying! I feel that the fin holds up just as well as the wool pile itself, personally.
