Hello,

These Better Bilt windows do not have removable sashes, making the balance replacement more difficult than in modern windows. With the bottom sash in the closed position, you'd need to slide the Series 400 balance tubes down the inside of the sash channel and screw the balance tube to the top of the window track. Repeat the same process on both sides of the sash.

Next, you'll need to hold the bottom sash up and have someone hold it for you. With the 75-005 charging tool, work the spiral bow tie through the 17-025 bracket. The spiral will probably drop after you do this. Bring the spiral back up to the sash and use the 75-005 tool to engage the bottom hole of the spiral. Give the spiral about two or three clockwise turns to charge the balance. You should feel the tension build in the balance.

Then hook the bow tie to the 17-025 bracket and repeat the same procedure on the other side of the sash. Once both balances are installed, test the sash. If it creeps down, raise the sash and give the spirals another clockwise turn before trying the sash again.

How would you replace the #25 bracket if the sash is able to be removed?

If the sash comes out, the 17-025 clip is simply screwed on the side of sash. If the sash isn't removable, then this project will be a lot harder. You could potentially use the 17-094 clip on bracket. This bracket clips on the inside lip of the sash and may be easier to work with.
