Door lock is sticking. When you move the lock to from "lock" to "unlock" it often won't completely release and requires a lot of repeated and rough attempts to complete the process. This is true both when in contact with door frame and when ajar.

Hello,

Your patio door hardware resembles the 82-086 handle set, 82-260 mortise lock, and 82-249 keeper. Take a look and compare the specifications to yours.

I would also recommend removing the inside handle from the door to check the thumb latch spindle that engages with the internal mortise lock for damage. If the latch is intact, you can use a slotted screwdriver to test the mortise lock to confirm if the locking hooks will engage without the thumb latch in place. If not, then the mortise lock would need to be replaced. Take a look and see what you think. Thank you!
