S400 spiral balance and shoe type

Quick Learner
Not sure of shoe type for 3/8 inch S400 25 inch window balance vertical window.

I need to replace 3 spiral balances, with 3 shoes and a tool to install.

Thanks,

Hello,

The S400 spiral balance does not come with a shoe. The cross-shaped end of the spiral attaches to a bracket like one of the related items shown on our product page. If your balance has a shoe attached to the end of the spiral, we would need to see a photo of the entire balance assembly removed from the window to determine if it is something that we can supply. Thank you.

The broken spiral balance did not have a shoe attached, so I don't know what type of shoe is required. Are you able to determine the shoe type based on photo of spiral balance and previous photo taken from bottom of window, looking up vertical channel where the shoe would be? Would the old shoe have fallen out, or is it stuck inside the vertical frame channel of window? Thank you.

Thanks for getting back to us. It sounds like you need a mounting bracket that the end of the S400-26 spiral balance anchors to. We can't be sure of the style that your window uses without seeing the original part but you are welcome to review the compatible brackets shown under the related items section of the balance product page.

Since it doesn't look like you would have space to install one of the brackets that cradle the sash from the bottom, your window most likely uses a bracket that attaches to the inside corner of the sash, which is notoriously difficult to access. We'll also relate a few of them on this page for your convenience. It's possible that yours is broken or fully missing, but I can't confirm based on your photo. If possible, you would need to remove the sash fully from the window to replace the balance bracket. If you do not have experience repairing this type of window, you may want to consider getting a local professional involved to assist you.
