Saloon Door Style Hardware

Why is the top piece that attached to the doorway plastic instead of brass? My other hardware on my old saloon doors has a top brass piece and not plastic. It looks a lot nicer especially when its on the top where people will most likely see it.

The reason the manufacturer changed over to nylon was to reduce friction when swinging the door. I don't believe these are available any other way these days.
