To get started, we would need to see photos of both handles and confirm the exact distance between the center of the installation holes. We'll also need to see the cut-out where the mortise lock that feel inside the door installs. Thank you!
Your handle set resembles the 82-086 with 3-15/16" hole spacing. If so, see the 82-310 key lock used with this assembly. This handle set is also often used with the 82-218 mortise lock, which is known to fall inside the door opening since the installation tabs rest on the inside of the frame.
