Window Shoe Pivot Lock

A home owner from Arlington, VA says:
My condo was built in 2012. All the windows have the pivot shoe shown in the attached photo. I'm sure it's a contractor grade shoe. Many of these pivot shoes are already failing. I would like to find either: (1) an identical replacement; or (2) a better quality replacement. Can you help me to identify the type of pivot shoe that I currently have, who makes it, or recommend a replacement? I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thanks for posting. It's hard to tell while it's still installed, but the shoe in your photo looks similar to our 15-207. Look it over and see what you think.

As far as I know, there isn't any kind of better quality shoe made in this same style. Most balance manufacturers make only one kind of shoe. I've never heard of anyone making a weaker quality shoe as well as a stronger one. There's typically just one shoe.

Thank you kindly Paul. It looks like you have identified the same one. So, here is a follow up question. This shoe is attached by a string to another mechanism that fits inside the track at the top of the track (for lack of a better term, I will call it a pulley). Do you have that whole mechanism with the shoe attached? I figure it would be easier to buy the whole mechanism with the shoe attached and just replace everything, than trying to tie an old string from my current pulley onto a new show. Any thoughts you have would be most appreciated.

Of course! The shoe is usually attached to a mechanism called a balance. In your case, it'd be a channel balance. We can identify what you need, but I'd need you to remove it from the window and show us some additional pictures. I'd like to see the metal channel at the top where it installs in the window, as well as a photo of the stamp printed on it (if any). Finally, please tell me how many you need.

We can sell you a complete channel balance with the 15-207 attached, but it would have to be a special order since this shoe isn't a standard option. Once I have the information requested we can get started.
