Hi!
I have an old house (circa 1930) and am working to replace the channel balances on a window
When I took the bottom sash out, I found a single, old spiral balance on one side. It's 31" long and seems to be about 7/16" wide.
I assume I should replace this old one with two new ones? Is it important to match the old spiral balance, or fit to the window's dimensions? The window channel is 5/8" wide, is 34" tall, and weighs 13.5 lbs.
I'd really appreciate any guidance!

Hey Dan. Our Series 500 Non-Tilt Window Spiral Balance is often a good choice to replace these old wood window spiral balances. If the tube is 31", see our S500-31. For a sash that weighs around 13 pounds, use a Red Tip option. Now, you may need a new bracket to attach to the spiral tip--our 17-012 is one such possibility. Keep in mind some customers report this bracket works fine for their windows, whereas others have complained it is too large. Unfortunately I can't say what will be the case for you--trying it is really the only way to find out. For peace of mind, you can view our Return Policy here in the event something doesn't work out.
