You don't generally want to remove the lock from the bar in these cases. Looking at your photos, it appears that the lock handle piece that the 39-291 attaches to is broken off, so you will unfortunately need to a whole new multi-point lock set. 

My recommendation is to use our 38-147 and the 38-149. This looks like the type you have in your window now.
