pile weatherstrip

Quick Learner from NYC
Hi,
I would like to replace pile weatherstripping in Champion windows that are 25 years old. Windows are in good shape but weatherstripping is shot. As you'll note in the photo sent, there is no way to insert the plastic strip into the slot because they are blocked by side frames that are not removeable.
Is there an altenative to installing? The strip base is 1/8", not certain of the pile- maybe 5/32.

Thank you

Thanks for reaching out to us! If you're sure you can't take your sash apart, you will need to use a utility knife to cut out the old wool pile to remove it. With the old wool pile removed, you will need the back of the blade in your utility knife to help install the new pile. First, cut the wool pile to the length needed, then put one edge of the pile base into one side of the groove. Then with the back edge of your utility knife blade force the other side of the wool pile into the groove. It is a little tricky, but if you can't take the sash apart then that is the way to install the pile.

In the meantime, take a look at the related pile weatherstripping and videos on this page. Have a look at the specifications and see if you think you can adapt one to your window. Our full selection can be found here and we also offer samples of up to (5) if you're interested.
