Broken spiral

Home Owner from Hollis, NH
Hello,

I’m reaching out regarding a broken crank mechanism on one of my Caradco casement windows. The operator still opens the window, but it no longer closes it properly. Upon inspection, it appears that the end of the spiral shaft inside the operator gear assembly has broken off, preventing the crank from engaging in the closing direction.

I’ve attached several photos showing:

The broken spiral shaft removed from the operator
The crank handle and housing
The operator mechanism still installed in the window frame

Could you please confirm whether this operator can be repaired or if it needs full replacement? If a replacement is required, I’d appreciate help identifying the correct Caradco operator model number or a compatible replacement part.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello,

Since the spline that the handle attaches to has broken, unfortunately, the entire assembly will need to be replaced. Take a look at the 39-031 and 39-032 EntryGard operators. These resemble your old operator, but review the specifications below to confirm they match your assembly. If so, you'll need the 39-031 with the arms attached to the left side of the base as shown in your photo. We also offer the 39-107FK handle and cover kit. Thank you!
