Difficulty of installing your 10 557

A quick learner from virginia says:
I ordered a 10 557 set but I can't get the male fixture to fit into the female fixture no matter how hard I push the two pieces together. There seems to be no give or flexibility in the female fixture. What can I do?

Thanks for posting! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble, but I can't say I'm surprised. This kind of hardware can be very difficult to install. Unfortunately, there's no real trick to it. You just have to be patient and use a lot of elbow grease. You may find it easier if someone helps you out. They can hold one side still while you press in with the other.

These are hard to install because once the two sides are pressed together, they're in for good. There's no way to disconnect them without drilling them out! See the video below about a similar part for more information.

I had a good experience pressing a similar latch into place using a c-clamp. I used duct tape to position the pieces (and protect from scratches) before screwing down with the c-clamp.
